About Muay Thai

Muay Thai is known in Europe under the name Thai boxing and is renowned worldwide as a highly impactful and effective fighting style. Together with conventional boxing, Muay Thai forms the basis for the standing aspect of MMA. Similarly, Kickboxing (K1) can be seen as a modified version of Thailand's national sport. With its simple division into knees, elbows, kicks, and strikes, the style is relatively straightforward and easy to learn, but without the fundamental knowledge of Muay Thai, your skill level will always be lacking. For this reason, at Aarhus Muay Thai, we place great emphasis on the fundamentals of Thai boxing.

Our Approach

After a period of training at Aarhus Muay Thai, you will experience progress towards more advanced techniques and movements, but these always build upon repetitions and mastering fundamental techniques. Since we draw our experience from the sport's home country, we have chosen to follow the same training routine to provide you as a practitioner with an authentic and genuine experience of the sport. Therefore, in addition to the fundamental striking techniques, we also place equal importance on the clinch (a form of standing grappling), as it is highly fundamental, greatly useful for self-defense, and also strengthens the body's muscles and tendons while improving your energy efficiency in combat.

The Fundamentals

As Thai boxing is a physically demanding sport, it requires a significant amount of physical training. However, since Thai boxing is also a technically demanding sport, it requires you, conversely, to be equally capable of setting aside the hard physical training in order to practice pure technical skills. In addition to the technical and physical aspects, Thai boxing requires, more than anything else, that both your body and mind are in good balance. Otherwise, neither your physical nor technical abilities will allow you to progress far in Thai boxing.

A Training Session

The training consists of a thorough warm-up, intense strength and endurance training, a session focused on correctly executing techniques and combinations, followed by rounds of sparring and/or clinch.
